Physically Motivated Environmental Sound Synthesis for Virtual Worlds
A system is described for simulating environmental sound in interactive virtual worlds, using the physical state of objects as control parameters. It contains a unified framework for integration with physics simulation engines, and synthesis algorithms that are tailored to work within the framework. A range of behaviours can be simulated, including diffuse and non-linear resonators, and loose s...
متن کاملPhya and VFoley, Physically Motivated Audio for Virtual Environments
Phya is an open source C++ library that facilitates physically motivated audio in virtual environments. A review is presented and recent developments in the context of game audio, including the launch of VFoley, a project using Phya as the basis for a fully fledged virtual sound design environment. This will enable sound designers to rapidly produce rich Foley content from within a virtual envi...
متن کاملDesigning Sound Collaboratively Perceptually Motivated Audio Synthesis
In this contribution, we will discuss a prototype that allows a group of users to design sound collaboratively in real time using a multi-touch tabletop. We make use of a machine learning method to generate a mapping from perceptual audio features to synthesis parameters. This mapping is then used for visualization and interaction. Finally, we discuss the results of a comparative evaluation study.
متن کاملPhysically-Based Sound Synthesis on GPUs
Modal synthesis is a physically-motivated sound modeling method. It has been successfully used in many applications. However, if large number of modes are involved in a simulated scene, it becomes an overwhelming task to synthesize sounds in real time without special hardware support. An implementation based on commodity graphics hardware is proposed as an alternative solution by using the para...
متن کاملInteracting With Sound: An Interaction Paradigm for Virtual Auditory Worlds
The visual and the auditory field of perception respond on different input signals from our environment. Thus, interacting with worlds solely trough sound is a very challenging task. This paper discusses methods and techniques for sonification and interaction in virtual auditory worlds. In particular, it describes auditory elements such as speech, sound and music and discusses their application...
